What role did religion play in the founding of the colonies and the United States of America?
Separatists (Pilgrims)
Seperated from the big countrees to form a new country so that they could have religus freedom.(L33tgamer)
Separated from the Church of England because they felt that it could not be sufficiently reformed to make it true (as opposed to Puritans, who thought the Church of England could be reformed).
Puritans
The Puritans wanted a reform of the Church of England and set up a strict religious system in their Massachusetts Bay.
They are the ones who disided how reallidgous belifes would be worshiped. Christianoty is one of the main realigons that the early america would belive in. In wtich they had the Yearly Meetings about 4 times a year with different subjects. There were and are diffierent veiws from the quakers from European and North Americas history.
Maryland
Maryland was set aside from the beginning as a place where Catholics could escape persecution. Being in the minority in the new world, they had a strong tendency towards toleration in the area of religion. Here is a link to their Declaration of Tolerance from 1649.
Deists
a religon that beleves that just by watching the world around them they can figere out how it was made and works.(l33tgamer).
